State of South Carolina Department of Commerce

The state of South Carolina is strategically located halfway between New York City and Miami. South Carolina offers unparalleled value to companies seeking the ideal business location.
South Carolina is home to more than 250 automotive companies from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to Tier I and Tier II suppliers. South Carolina is the leading producer and exporter of cars in the United States and ranks first in the tire production and exports, as well.
In the last months, BMW announced a $1 billion investment to add the X7 to its production and increase its capacity in South Carolina to an estimated 450,000 vehicles per year. In May, Volvo Cars selected South Carolina for its first manufacturing facility in the Western Hemisphere, an investment of $500 million that will have an initial estimated annual production capacity of 100,000 cars. Lastly, Mercedes-Benz Vans will invest $500 million to expand its facility in Charleston to supply the North American market with the next-generation Sprinter.
The growth of the automotive cluster is also evident regionally as Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz continue to expand in the Greater Southeast.
The Department of Commerce has a long and successful track record of helping international companies establish, relocate and expand business operations in the U.S. and North American markets.
The state has had a presence in Europe (Munich, Germany), where we provide advisory and support services, including:
• Identification of suitable communities, sites and buildings
